I consider myself an artist, scientist and conservationist. Born in Nigeria, I spent my formative years in South Africa, Brazil, Mexico, Spain and the UK. Much of my childhood was spent tramping through the veldt or jungles and fields of whichever country I was in, studying plants, animals and insects (much to the horror of my parents). Captivated by the natural world, I later went on to study Environmental Biology followed by a teaching degree. Since leaving university, I have taught science in the UK, Spain, Singapore and now Japan. Throughout my studies and working life, I have been involved in artistic pursuits, obsessed with making things and drawing very detailed pictures.
One area that particularly fascinates me is discarded objects. Things that most people see as garbage I attempt to re-purpose into something new. And my subject material is nature, often endangered species, or the environment, or people and their complex emotions. Each piece I make is unique and may take months or even years to create, usually evolving as it proceeds into something new and unexpected.
